Hi there!

My name is Chris, and I’m an aspiring astrophotographer originally from Queensland, now based on the Surf Coast of Victoria. Photography has always been a part of my life - I began shooting on film before transitioning to digital, where I’ve continued to refine both my technical and artistic approach. I enjoyed street, long exposure and landscape photography.

These days my primary passion lies in astrophotography, driven by a lifelong fascination with astronomy and the night sky. Since joining the Astronomical Society of Victoria (ASV) several years ago, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with a community who have helped me expand both my understanding and capabilities.

I’m continually working to improve my astrophotography techniques, from precise polar alignment and guiding to image calibration, stacking, and advanced post-processing. All of my digital processing and image development are done in PixInsight and Adobe Photoshop, where I focus on bringing out fine structural details while maintaining a natural and balanced representation of the sky.

Astrophotography is a technically demanding pursuit that requires patience, persistence, and a solid understanding of specialized equipment. This includes equatorial mounts, cooled CMOS cameras, autoguiding systems, and optical filters. Despite the challenges, the reward of capturing faint celestial objects under a clear night sky makes every late night worthwhile.

Portable Skywatcher Star Adventure has been my starting mount for tracking the night sky. This fueled my desire to take images of deep sky objects.

Melbourne I Love You - The Book

When Melbourne photographer Chris Cincotta began putting together his third book, a coffee table collection celebrating the beauty of Melbourne and Victoria, he invited a handful of local photographers to contribute their work and stories.

For me, being published in a book like this is an absolute dream come true. I was genuinely humbled when Chris asked me to be part of the project, not only to share some of my photographs but also to sit down for an interview about my life, my journey in photography, and what inspires me to keep shooting.

It’s been such an incredible experience to see my work printed alongside so many talented photographers who all share a love for this amazing part of the world.

You can read the full interview below to learn a bit more about me and my photography journey here!
